Terry Butler
Conductor, Organist, Pianist, Educator
A native of Norfolk, Virginia, Terry received his undergraduate and graduate degrees in music education from Norfolk State University. He has also studied conducting at Westminister Choir College. Currently, he serves as the Assistant Director of Choral Activities at Norfolk State University and is the conductor of the NSU Chamber Choir. In that capacity, Mr. Butler serves as an advisor, mentor and instructor to students matriculating in the music department.
Mr. Butler has been a lover of music for most of his life. His love of music and education converged when he became the Director of Choirs at I. C. Norcom High School in Portsmouth, Virginia. Aside from his professional duties at Norfolk State University, Mr. Butler is heavily involved with all aspects of the music field. Presently, he serves as Organist/Music Director at Grace Episcopal Church, Norfolk, VA and Music Director of the I. Sherman Greene Chorale, a semi-professional civic ensemble known across the United States as a choral singing aggregate that performs the music of the great masters. In addition, Mr. Butler is the Co-Owner of Dance Dimensions Dance and Music Performing Arts Academy of Virginia Beach. The school teaches all forms of dance; ballet, jazz, modern, tap, hip-hop, and liturgical just to name a few. He also teaches classes in piano, voice and music theory.
Mr. Butler is a proficient musician who enjoys playing the piano and organ as well as producing and arranging in a variety of music genres.
He is an active member of the National Association of Negro Musicians and Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc.
